PABLO LIMA CROWNED AS NEW CHAMPION IN VILLA CARLOS PAZ

Pablo Lima and Juani Mieres won the last tournament of the season, the famous Villa Carlos Paz International Open, after beating Cristian Gutiérrez and Matías Díaz in the final 6/7, 6/1, 6/2 and forfeit. For “the princes” it meant their fourth tournament won this season.

Pablo Lima and Juani Mieres took advantage in the fourth game of the first set, when the first break became effective. Just three games later, their rivals leveled the score when they came back to break the service of Mieres. It ended up in a tie-breaker, which was for Díaz-Gutiérrez.

From the second set on the match changed. The wind ceased, and the play got direct, and the number 2 players gained confidence and they both ousted their rivals from the match. Díaz-Gutiérrez were unable to control these intensity and pressure coming from Pablo Lima and Juani  Mieres. They achieved two new breaks and the second set finished 6/1.

Shortly after starting the third set, Gutiérrez experienced severe abdominal pain when playing. He was able to continue the match, but their options decreased even more. Lima and Mieres got two other breaks deciding the final.

Gutiérrez called for medical assistance at the beginning of the fourth set but, before long, he retired.

In the end Pablo Lima and Juani Mieres claimed their fourth tournament this season, moving closer to number 1 players in the standings.

It was the final fanfare on Argentine soil, playing two good tournaments in Buenos Aires and Villa Carlos Paz, with great public response and proving that Argentina has an assured spot in the best professional circuit all around the world.

We would like to thank the great work carried out by Pablo Lima and other players: Seba Nerone, in the eve of semi-finals, and David Gutiérrez, who was in denied in the round of 16.
